Procedures after arrival
In order to live in Japan, international students are required to do the following things:
- Acquisition or Change of Residence Status
- International students enrolled at the University of Miyazaki should acquire residence status as a ‘college student’. For details please ask at the Regional Immigration Bureau or the Global Support Office (GSO).
- If you don't have college student residence status, you may not be treated as an international student at the University of Miyazaki.
- Notification (Change) of place of residence

- You are required to notify your address at the municipal office of your place of residence.

- If you lose Resident card, please apply for renewal / re-issuing at the Miyazaki Branch Office of the Fukuoka Immigration Bureau.
- National Health Insurance (NHI)
- International students in Japan are also required to join the NHI, of which you will have to pay only 30% of incurred medical expenses.

- In the Nenkin-ka / Hoken-ka, it asks for the procedure of "Issue of the temporary insurance proof" and "Declaration of the insurance tax reduction (For the international student)" without fail.
- Foreign nationals who apply for extension of period of stay / change of residence status are required to show their NHI card at immigration bureau .
- National Pension Premium Exemption
- In Japan, citizens (including foreign nationals) need to pay the national pension system at the age of twenty. But students can apply for a postponement.
- Research students and special audit students can apply for an exemption.

- The exemption must be requested every year.
- Bank Account
- If you open an account at a bank, you can pay the following fees via automatic transfer: Electricity, telephone, water, gas, internet fee, NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) television service, tuition fee and dormitory boarding fees.
- A cash card is convenient for using cash dispensers (CDs) and automated teller machines (ATMs).

- * If you open an account at a JP bank (Yuucho Ginko), you can use your signature instead of a seal.
- ** If you don't have one yet, you can use a ‘Residence Record (Jyuminhyo)’<¥300> which can be issued on the day of application. It can be issued at Kibana Branch Office. Tel.0985-58-1111
