Procedures before leaving

You are required to do the following things before you leave Japan.

Procedures before leaving
1. Moving out of apartments
Residents of International House
(1) Submit the ‘Notification of Vacating’ form to the office.
  • - Those who will vacate upon completion of the residence period: one month before the expiration date.
  • - Those who will vacate before the residence period is complete: ten days before vacating.
(2) Pay the rent and various expenses for the final month.
(3) Clean the room, fix all furniture in the same position as it was when you moved in, return the keys, and have the superintendent and House official check the room condition.
(4) You must clean the range hood and the IH cooktop.
(5) Dispose of all the garbage.
Residents of Kibana Dormitory or Kiyotake Dormitory
(1) Submit the ‘Notification of Vacating’ form to the office.
  • - Those who will vacate upon completion of the residence period: two months before the expiration date.
  • - Those who will vacate before the residence period is complete: two months before vacating.
(2) Pay the rent for the final month.
(3) Clean the room, fix all furniture in the same position as it was when you moved in, have the GSO staff official check the room condition one day before vacating, and return the keys.
(4) You must clean the range hood and the IH cooktop.
(5) Dispose of all the garbage.
Prefectural, Municipal, and Private Apartments
Inform the offices or the real estate agent of your vacating by telephone one month before vacating.

Please come to GSO to cancel the Comprehensive Renter’s Insurance for Foreign Students.
2. Applying for the ‘Notification of Moving out’
When you leave Japan or move to another city you will need to apply for a ‘notification of Moving out’ at the Miyazaki City Hall or Kiyotake Town Hall.
The procedure is available 2 weeks before leaving Japan or moving to another city.
If you move to another city you need to submit the ‘Notification of Moving out’ to your new municipality as part of your ‘moving-in’ application.
3. Electricity, Gas, Water Supply
Sometimes the real estate agent or the landlord will complete the necessary procedures for you. Otherwise, you must complete the necessary procedures yourself, including the payment of the fees.
4. Telephone
Pay all the fees to all the telephone companies you have used au, Softbank, NTTdocomo, etc.).
5. Closing the account at a bank or a post office
Before you close your account, please make sure that housing reimbursement money, study travel money, and the scholarship stipend for the last month have already been deposited and that the money for all bills including the one for a personal phone have been withdrawn from your account.
6. National Health Insurance
Please return the NHI Card to the Miyazaki City Hall or the Kiyotake Town Hall.
If you do not do this, you will be charged the insurance fee for the next month.
7. Children’s School
You must inform the school in advance of the date of leaving.
8. Returning your ‘resident card’
You must return your ‘resident card’ at an International Airport when you leave Japan at the end of your visa period.
You might be very busy doing many things just before you leave Japan, but please do not forget to pay all your bills. If you forget, you will cause a lot of trouble to your guarantor, your advisor, and university officials.
Please don't leave any garbage, as not to cause your neighbors a lot of trouble.
